Harrison Ince were commissioned in March 2008 to design a new theatre and drama department for Manchester Grammar School.  The building sits on the site of the present theatre building and the double height glass entrance foyer leads in to a 350 seat multi - purpose theatre that includes a fly tower and orchestra pit .  In addition there are three large studio spaces and ancillary accommodation including dressing rooms, green rooms, workshops and technical support spaces.

Many of the materials used in the building including zinc cladding, frameless glazing and render contrast with the traditional construction used elsewhere in the school, however  the building does incorporate some areas of traditional red brick masonry to tie it in with its context.

The proposals are currently being considered by Manchester City Council’s planning office and it is hoped that construction will be underway in the autumn.
