Completed in 2000, the redevelopment of this four-storey college block provided a much-needed overhaul of the top storey restaurant at a cost of £350,000. The catering college occupies the fourth floor, and the restaurant has become a public showpiece for the students’ work. |

A new glass lift, which rises elegantly at the corner of the original 1960s block, provides a dedicated access to the restaurant as well as a strong visual identity for the college. The contemporary design is carried through the ground floor entrance and into the fourth floor, which has a varied selection of curved forms and bold colours. The bar area combines panels of glass block and flowing ceilings with an oak floor. The division between this area and the eighty-cover restaurant consists of two specially commissioned glass screens. |
